Why I Built BarkSkip

BarkSkip was built out of desperation. My dog Gus is an active TV watcher. It’s fun having him watch with me, until an animal enters the screen. Gus is extremely TV-reactive to so many things on the screen: any animal, ringing doorbells, sirens, and even the actor Zach Galifianakis (Must be the beard).

Movie nights turned into exhausting hover-sessions over the remote. I couldn't actually watch the movie because I was too busy anticipating the next trigger, ready to hit mute or fast-forward before chaos erupted in the living room.

Streaming platforms have parental controls for kids, but nothing for our pets. Since I couldn't find a tool to help us, I decided to build one.

Now, I want to share that peace and quiet with other reactive, TV-watching dog owners.
