How to Use BarkSkip on Your Big TV (Without Losing Your Mind)
You installed BarkSkip; you’re ready for a stress-free movie night, but there’s one catch: BarkSkip runs on your laptop’s web browser, and you want to watch a BarkSkip-supported movie on your big living room TV.
Because BarkSkip works by reading Netflix’s player timing in your browser, it can’t be installed directly onto a Roku, Apple TV, or smart TV app.
But don’t worry, getting BarkSkip onto the big screen takes about 30 seconds. Here are the three easiest ways to move movie night from your laptop to the living room.
Method 1: The Foolproof HDMI Cable (Highly Recommended)
This is the most reliable way to watch. No lag, no connection drops, and no DRM (copyright) black screens.
Plug an HDMI cable into your laptop (or use a USB-C to HDMI adapter if you have a newer Mac).
Plug the other end into your TV.
Change your TV input to that HDMI port.
Open Chrome or Safari, start your BarkSkip-supported Netflix movie, and make it full screen. Your laptop is now the ultimate remote control.
Method 2: Apple Screen Mirroring (AirPlay)
If you have a Mac and an Apple TV (or a newer AirPlay-compatible smart TV), you can do this entirely wirelessly.
Turn on your TV.
On your Mac, click the Control Center icon in the top right menu bar (it looks like two little switches).
Click Screen Mirroring and select your TV from the list.
Open Netflix in your browser, hit play, and go full screen.
Note: Make sure you are mirroring your whole screen, not just trying to "cast" the video from inside the Netflix player, as Netflix sometimes blocks casting to protect copyrights.
Method 3: Google Chromecast (Cast Tab / Desktop)
If you use Chrome and have a Chromecast or Google TV, you can cast your browser right to the screen.
Open Chrome on your laptop.
Click the three vertical dots (menu) in the top right corner of Chrome and click Cast...
Click the Sources dropdown in that little menu and select Cast tab (or Cast screen).
Select your TV from the list of devices.
Open your BarkSkip-supported movie on Netflix and go full screen.
Warning
Do not click the Cast icon inside the actual Netflix video player. If you do that, your TV pulls the video stream directly from Netflix's servers, completely bypassing BarkSkip on your laptop. You have to cast the browser tab itself for the skips to work!
Why this setup is actually a blessing in disguise
Keeping your laptop on the coffee table means you aren't frantically pointing a plastic TV remote at the screen trying to hit pause when a doorbell rings. BarkSkip does the heavy lifting, but if you need to pause or change settings, your keyboard is right there.
